Bringin back the ART!

Here are some more pre-lim sketches.....first off, i HATE to sketch, but with something like this, i need a starting point and layout to get it more cohesive. I usually sketch directly on the canvas, but...oh well....i want to make sure i like each layout before i go to canvas..and tweek from there.

So.....first is Zeus.....he's not my favorite...always the thunderbolt, right? But he's pretty cool...being one of the "Big Three" and the head of the council. I decided on a chos of clouds, with some sun streaking through...with a thunderbolt streaking down, but being almost caught/thrown from his hands. I HATE drawing or painting people, but i am going to give it my all for the final product.




Next is Hades. He gets crap for notoriety and I think he's pretty bad-ass....dispite his notorious bad temper and being the god of the underworld and all. Also another of the "Big-Three"........I think i like his layout the best of the sketches so far. Came up with a hands raised with his famous black cloak...and dead milling about, with the guardian Cerebus....in the background (3 headed dog)....and i thought for the top if i have room...maybe like the ground with tree's roots and dirt and rocks representing him being "under" the ground might be nice.


*Note these are realitivly TINY canvases for the gods...and there is literally only so much i can fit on it. the actual size of the canvases are pretty close to the size of the actual sketches....however, i LOVE to paint in miniature detail to make it look like the real thing up close...so bare with me!



Next would be Poseidon....who is also
AWESOME. The last of the "Big-Three"...and though i have a special place in my heart for Hades.....he's my favorite...and NO...not because of the book i am basing this on! I have LONG loved the sea, and lakes and ponds. I grew up fishing and exploring marine life! I have almost ALWAYS kept fish as pets (along side cats, rabbits, dogs, birds, hermit crabs, etc) but have always had a facination for fish as well. More on this and me later...back to Poseidon! I forgot to add his famous trident, but will obviously include in the final. I thought he should be riding into a battle on raging waves on his Hippocampes-es.....(sp?)...like head of a horse, body of a fish..chariot thing.....so THERE! haha...i like it!



Lastly, I did go on to do Athena...and i have to say, i admire her alot. She's alot like me...loves knowledge...and justice...and Owls! Hahaha....but i really she's really admirable. Goddess of wisdom, , strength, and strategy. I like the one on the left the most...with just the symbols...with a little tweeking here and there!

WORLD CUP!

Just FYI, i have offically fallen in love with European football....(NOT AMERICAN SOCCER)! Go HOLLAND! Blame it on the boyfriend, but i wish i had given it a chance sooner...it is seriously interesting to watch...and the diversity in the game is great! Also, they play REAL soccer! (even in the world cup...the england Vs. USA team match was like children batting a ball compared to the other one i watched with Germany Vs. Australia)!!! So once again....totally....offically hooked!

Art Project

Had NO idea what to blog about...but maybe i just thought up a good one? I was thinking....i dont seem to have anything too important to say....at least not right now...so how about i do a following of the new art project i want to get started. Maybe that way i can stay on track with my silly little blog...and get more art done in the process. I figured i can take photos along the way...and describe how i want things and post those as the project developes. Good idea?....i think so! So...on the the main idea for the project. 1. It's a painting...or collection of paintings based on mythology...or more specifically...a homage to the series by Rick Riordan, Percy Jackson and the Olympians. 2. I plan on using some of the rich details and descriptions that were so great in the series. Plus i'm a sucker for mythology! 3. Like i said a collection of paintings...which this would prob be better with a visual, but two large main paintings...one depicting mount olympus....haven't decided if it should be on top of the empire state building, so just something vague. And the other depicting my idea of tartarus...where the titans were banished. Then arranged around the two main canvases, respectivly....small paintings of some of the gods and or monsters...ect. 4. It will be acrylic on canvas. Obviously i dont think any one reads my blog, but if you do, please let me know what you think about that bit of visual. I'll sketch something and scan it in to give you a better perspective on things soon. I have all my materials already...so maybe this might actually work. (also in the mean time...maybe i'll post some of the other stuff i've done, and possibly discuss future projects. Woot....productivity!

Toast Anyone????????

Being a responsible and hardworking person is always something that i take very seriously. But...on the other hand...i try NOT to take myself all that seriously. I was raised to ALWAYS appreciate the power of a "well-timed-joke", and have learned to laugh at myself...constantly! I may not have mentioned, but i also have a sister...who is 3 years and 11 months older than me, and she was also raised on the same principals.

And on that note...i dedicate this post to her. She came into work this morning (will explain later) with a great story about a song about Toast.

The Beginning Continued...

And so...to continue the possible minx-revolution ::crosses fingers in hopeful abandon::...I give to you...a bit about myself...and also a bit about what I hope to accomplish here:

If i had to describe myself in a few words: I am a Southerner.....transplanted into New England, against my young will. However, I was "green" enough to come to terms with it. Although I have been through more than I'd like to reveal at this moment, I wouldn't change a thing.

If i had to say in a few words where i would like this blog to go: I hope it is an outlet to me..to maybe get my brain straight when i'm confused. To maybe express things I wouldn't normally express. But most of all, if anything i am feeling or thinking...can bring a ray of sunshine (ok maybe not sunshine...but HUMOR!!!!!)...to someone elses life who might be feeling down (....or unloved...or just plain bored?) Then i think i've accomplished something.

So to all you people out there....I'm talkin' to you! Those of you who are like me...in the middle.....of a WHOLE-LOTTA-SHIT. (not including my solid ROCK...my counter-part...my MAN minx...who keeps me from beating the CRAP outta people who annoy me).

So that is like an itty bitty glimpse into the "Inner Minxxxxxxxxx" ::insert cool echo effect here:: And on that note............until next time.

And So It Begins

Yes....that is precisely the first thing that popped in to my head as a "first" entry Title....for a first-time blogger. You must know that i don't expect anyone to read or comment on this, however, (in the back of my mind) i know how depressingly-pessimistic that must sound. And so, if you happen to glance over these inane words and find them...oh....lets say...mildly amusing, or intelligently sarcastic...or even horribly inept, i would still love to hear from ANYONE.

And on that note...maybe I should get back to work at my "real" job for now. (Can't you feel the motivation just dripping off those words???)
